Northern California › Van Duzen River
The Van Duzen River is a major tributary of the Eel River. The Van Duzen is located 14 miles north of the mouth of the Eel. Its total length is about 50 miles, the best fishing being below Bridgeville. The advantage of the Van Duzen over the Eel is that it does not blow out as easily and after a storm it clears faster than the Eel.
The fish of the Van Duzen include steelhead, chinook, and coho or silver salmon . Chinook arrive in the river in September. The Chinook run from September through December, with the peak in late October. The average chinooks are 8-15 lbs, with some up to 40lbs.
