The Tecate River Sub basin of the Tijuana River Watershed is a binational sub-basin straddling the U.S. - Mexico border. One of the most pressing environmental and cultural issues of the Tecate River Sub basin is the current and future population growth and the pressure that it will create on the water supply. Water use is greater per capita in the United States than in Mexico; in addition, urban growth in the border region is happening faster than water resources can be supplied, which creates a necessity for water conservation technologies. This site aims to inform the general public and decision makers about the physical processes that affect water resources within the Tecate River Sub-Basin. Examples of water conservation strategies are introduced for all types of users (industry, domestic and agriculture), with emphasis around domestic and agricultural needs. It is hoped this information will serve as a springboard to a higher level of understanding for resource planners and citizens and, in turn, conserve this precious resource for the future.
