Mission
Welcome to San Diego's Construction Site Storm Water
Pollution Monitor. This website is dedicated to involving citizens in the
prevention of sediment pollution from San Diego's
construction sites. Sediment pollution carried by storm water is a major cause of
impairment of local water bodies, not only from the sediment itself, but from
pollutants that are carried by eroded soil. |

Although soil erosion is a natural process, human disturbance of soil
dramatically increases erosion, pouring tons of sediment into our streams,
lakes, and coastal water bodies. Although enforceable laws
regulate sediment pollution from construction sites, real progress
towards reducing sediment pollution will come only with increased public
awareness and participation. It is our mission to involve more people in the
monitoring of this type of pollution.
To achieve this, our site demonstrates the potential utility of
web-based mapping in the monitoring of erosion and
erosion control plans at construction sites around San Diego. Our pilot
web-based geographic information system (GIS):
provides information about the laws that regulate this type of pollution
supports monitoring of construction sites and sediment pollution in San Diego
through interactive maps
