To use the ArcIMS Java Viewer you will need to install the Java Plug in. This is a one time installation.

To view an interactive map of San Diego with the following layers:

  • Watersheds

  • Storm drain conveyance system

  • 200 foot contour lines

  • Streams

  • Lakes

  • Example construction site locations

  • Major roads and freeways

Mapping Tips:

  • Make a layer active by clicking on its name in the legend.

  • Turn layers on and off by checking or un-checking the boxes.

  • Find: use find functions to identify and find features on the map.

  • Identify: make a layer active and then select a feature in the map to see the attributes.

  • Query features based on their attributes values: single quotes around query values must be used. The results of the query can be saved as a .csv (comma separated value) text file.

  • Buffer: buffer is only enabled when one or several features have been selected using the Select tool.

  • Measure distance: set the measure units as "feet" and then use the Measure tool to measure the distance.

  • Set scale: set the scale units as well as screen units.

  • Layer properties: change the color schemes of the layers.

  • Add data: from local sources or from web to the map.
