Transportation Systems

  • GIS helps humanitarian aid groups expedite transportation where they need to be concentrated, what type of incidents are occurring, and what demographic information is related to the incidents. also, it gives transportation professionals the most accurate drive-time calculation between stops. Accurate drive-time calculations are just one key factor for precise routing, scheduling, and optimization.  The GIS will help allow them to see where streets are located. Time is money for humanitarian aid workers, so they can use the GIS tools to help to locate safe streets.  It will allow them to be efficient, smooth operating, and sustain the flow of goods. Furthermore, most humanitarian aid groups use Airports to deliver their goods, however, out of 60 Airports in Somalia, only 12 are paved. Out of the 12 Airports, 10 are located in unsecured areas.
