There are three barbecues and eight picnic tables in the picnic area near the concession. Fishing from boats, patrons can float tube or fish from shore. There is no camping allowed at El Capitan. The nearest camping is at Lake Jennings County Park approximately 10 miles from El Capitan. At El Capitan currently there is no waterskiing or any towing due to the low water level. El Capitan is the only lake in San Diego County that allows the use of personal watercraft, such as jetskis.

Concession services include outboard motor rentals and sale of State fishing licenses, permits, food, beverages, bait and tackle. The words "North End" become very cliché when it comes to this lake as the majority of fish, whether it be bass, crappie, or catfish are caught at the North End of the lake.
