Maps

Welcome to our Maps page!

We are using three maps to demonstrate some of the functionality and possible applications of the latest Internet Mapping technology.

Our high school and middle/junior-high school attendance boundary maps feature detailed demographic, academic, and class size data derived from California School Accountability Report Cards.  These data are accessible by selecting the "Info Query" tool  Information Query Button  and then clicking on an area of interest on the map.

Our elementary school attendance boundary map features address-lookup technology and Web hyperlink capabilities.   "Address lookup" enables the Web site user to enter a San Diego street address or street intersection, and automatically obtain the map of the area with the local elementary school and its associated attendance area.  This functionality is demonstrated by selecting the "Geocoding" tool  Locate Address Button  and then entering a street address or intersection in the corresponding fields that appear.  After matches have been generated, the map user can select one to zoom in on the relevant location.  There are many more features available in our maps.  Please explore them so you can appreciate the technology and its potential applications.

GIS-enabled Internet maps have many built-in functions and applications.   Even though we are only demonstrating a handful of these features, our map interface may still be confusing and non-intuitive.  We have strived to make this cutting-edge technology as user friendly as possible.  If you have trouble accessing these maps with your Web browser, you may need to update your Web browser to the most recent edition.  Your browser must be capable of using frames and JavaScript.  Links to these updated browsers are available on our Welcome Page.  Additionally, you may experience problems if you have a very slow Internet connection.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Again, thank you for visiting our site.  We hope you enjoy these maps.  They represent several hours of our hard work in our Internet Mapping course at SDSU.
