THE OLDE ADOBE

The Olde Adobe sits directly to the south of Rohr Manor and is typical of the type built by the Native Americans of this region.  It has been a fixture on this land since 1938, but the adobe is actually much older than that.  The original owner of the property that Rohr Park sits on was Ruben Harrison, an avid American Indian artifact collector.  Unfortunately, his wife would not let him keep his collection in the main house.  So, to house his collection, he took several Mexican workers, skilled in working with adobe, up to the Cuyamaca Mountains to an adobe dwelling that had been there since the 1800's.  The abandoned adobe cabin was taken apart, brick by brick, brought to the spot it now stands on, and reconstructed.
