For
our group project we decided to demonstrate the visualization of
population change in San Diego County. We focused specifically on
what the population was in 1990, 2000, and what the estimated population
for San Diego County is projected to be in the year 2020. We not
only wanted to show visually how the population has changed, but
also how the change in population would impact San Diego County
resources such as transportation, housing, employment and planned
land use. The reason we chose this project is because San Diego
County is one of the fastest growing counties in the country and
the rapid change in population will have impacts on the resources.
We wanted to visually demonstrate what San Diego has done or plans
to do to keep up with the change in population by showing how housing
has changed from 1990 to 2000, in addition to looking at employment
trends in 2000, as well as what they are estimated to be in the
year 2020 and 2030. We also wanted to show any plans to improve
transportation in the county as well as what the county has planned
in regards to altering current land use conditions.
