Description

  Part of the Pine Valley Wilderness, Pine creek trail connects to Horsethief Canyon Trail to the south. The wilderness area is part of the Cleveland national forest and covers an area of 13,000 acres. One can hike through chaparral, grasses, oaks, sycamores, and cottonwoods. Noble Canyon trail starts in the same area.

Facilities

  There are restrooms at the trailhead.  Water is also available for horses.  Nearby towns include Alpine and Pine Valley.

Directions

   Take I-8 to Pine Valley exit and drive north. Drive 1/4 mile and turn left on Highway 80. Follow Highway 80 for 3.8 miles.  Turn left onto single lane  road. Parking lot is at the end of road. 

Trails

  #1 Secret Canyon Trail

                Length = Hikes vary in distance (overnight and day hikes).

                Difficulty = Moderate.

                Highlights = Vegetation includes oaks, sycamores, and cottonwoods, stream cascades and shallow pools, overnight camping with permit.  Secret Canyon also meets up with the Espinosa and Horsethief Trails.

Hazards

  Rattlesnakes, poison oak, ticks,  and the sudden, unexpected occurrence of thunderstorms.
