Dr. Zhong-Ren Peng is Associate Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. Dr. Peng’s major teaching and research activities related to GIS are primarily in the areas of GIS database design, linear data modeling, GIS applications in transportation, and Internet GIS. Dr. Peng has developed a GIS interface to link transit planning and modeling for Tri-Met, a transit agency in Portland, Oregon. He also helped design an enterprise GIS database for agency-wide transit applications for Tri-Met. His most recent interest and research project is in the area of Internet GIS to study GIS functionality on the Internet. Dr. Peng has published numerous articles on GIS applications in transportation, Internet GIS, transit demand modeling, transportation and land use interactions. His publications appear in journals such as URISA Journal, Environment and Planning B, Urban Studies, Transportation Research Records, Computers, Environment and Urban Systems. Funded research experience includes grants from Federal Transit Administration, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, from state departments of transportation in Wisconsin, Georgia and Oregon, as well as local and regional governments.

Dr. Peng has organized and instructed four workshops in the URISA and GIS/LIS conferences on the topic of “Internet GIS: State of the Art” and has written several articles on this topic. He regularly teaches introduction to GIS and advanced GIS courses at the graduate level, which cover broad topics in advanced GIS, including Internet GIS, component GIS, and GIS programming using visual basics and macro languages. Other regular course offerings include transportation planning, quantitative analysis, and urban planning methods.

Dr. Ming-Hsiang Tsou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography in San Diego State University. His research interests focus on Internet-based Geographic Information Systems (GIS), multimedia cartography, distributed computing, intelligent agents, and metadata modeling. He has been teaching several classes, including Map and Graphic Methods (Computer Cartography), Introduction to Geographic Information Science and Internet Mapping and Distributed GIServices (Please refer to the class website at http://map.sdsu.edu/geo596. Dr. Tsou is leading or participarting in many research projects. The following is the brief description of his current projects and research directions:

"Software Agent Communication Mechanism for Distributing GIServices on the Internet". This project focuses on the formalization of the role of software agents in GIServices and the integration of software agents and GIS applications. You can refer to the GeoAgent Web site at: http://map.sdsu.edu/geoagent.

"Web-based Geospatial Information Services For Natural Habitat Conservation and Management" supported by the NASA ARC 2001 program. This project seeks to enhance the utility of remotely sensed imagery by developing Web-based data warehousing, on-line image processing and on-line analysis functions. The Web Site for this project is at: http://map.sdsu.edu/arc.

"Integrated Mobile GIS and Wireless Internet Image Servers for Environmental Monitoring and Management" supported by the NASA ARC 2002 program. The goal of this project is to utilize mobile GIS applications, global positioning systems, and wireless network technology to provide park rangers and natural resource managers with integrated mobile geospatial information services. More information is provided in the Web site for this project at: http://map.sdsu.edu/mobilegis.
